About this conversion.
NEF is Nikon’s RAW photo format. Unlike a ready-made JPG, a RAW file needs to be developed into a visible image. This tool uses LibRaw to process the sensor image; it does not simply rename the file or extract a small embedded preview.
How to convert Nikon NEF files
Choose your NEF files and leave JPG selected as the output. Set JPG quality and, if needed, a longest edge. Press Convert and keep the tab open while each RAW image is developed. Save a finished JPG or download the batch as a ZIP. Your NEF originals are not modified.
Why the JPG may look different from your camera
The converter uses camera white balance and sRGB output. Nikon’s own picture controls, proprietary editing instructions and camera JPEG processing are not reproduced exactly. Colours, contrast and brightness may differ from a camera preview or a desktop RAW editor.
Camera support and RAW compression
NEF support depends on the camera model and the RAW compression used. Newer or unusual compression modes may not be supported by the bundled decoder. RAW conversion can use substantial memory; choosing a smaller output does not remove the need to decode the full input image first.

Different files.
One simple tool.
From an iPhone snap to a camera's RAW file, choose the format that works for you. Your original files are never changed.
JPG for everyday photos
Easy to share, smaller to store. Adjust the quality to balance detail and file size. JPG and JPEG are exactly the same format, with different file extensions.
PNG for crisp, clear detail
Lossless compression and support for transparent backgrounds. Ideal for graphics and screenshots. Photo files can be much larger than JPG.

RAW compatibility varies by camera model and compression. Standard image decoding depends on your browser; animated images export as a single still frame. Images above 80 megapixels are not supported. These are protective limits, not a guarantee against memory limits on your device.
Three steps.
Then you're done.
Bring your images
Drop your files into the converter or choose them from your device.
Pick your format
Choose JPG or PNG, set the size, and press Convert. Batches run one file at a time.

Save individual images or download everything together in a ZIP.
A few good questions.
Does this convert the full RAW image or a thumbnail?
It develops the RAW image through LibRaw, rather than using the embedded JPEG preview. The output dimensions depend on the camera’s active image area and any size setting you select.
Should I delete the NEF after downloading a JPG?
Keep the NEF if you may want to edit the photograph later. A JPG is a developed, lossy image and does not retain the original sensor data or the same editing flexibility.
Do my photos get uploaded?
No. The converter reads and processes your selected images in your browser. It does not send photo files to our server. Keep this tab open until your conversions finish.
Is it really free?
Yes. There are no required payments, accounts, subscriptions or watermarks. If you find the tool useful, you can optionally buy me a coffee to support it. The current limits are 100 MB per input file and 80 megapixels per image. Your device may reach its own memory limits sooner.
What's the difference between JPG and JPEG?
Only the filename extension. Both use the same JPEG format, so the JPG option covers both. JPG uses lossy compression; PNG uses lossless compression. Saving an existing JPG as PNG will not restore detail already lost.
Will the conversion keep metadata and transparency?
Photo metadata such as EXIF, GPS and capture date is not copied to the new file. PNG preserves transparency where the input has it; JPG replaces transparent areas with white. RAW images are developed using camera white balance and sRGB colour, so they may look different from the camera's own JPG.
Why won't my RAW file convert?
The file extension does not guarantee support for every camera or compression mode. The image could also exceed your device's available memory. Try fewer files, use an up-to-date browser, and expand “What happened” under a failed image for details. A smaller output size does not avoid the memory needed to decode the original.
Can I change the output after converting?
Yes. Switch between JPG and PNG to queue the loaded images again, then press Convert. To use different quality or size settings with the same format, clear the list and add the originals again.
Private by design.
Conversion happens on your device. There are no analytics, advertising scripts, app cookies or user accounts in this site.
Selected images and converted results stay in this tab's memory. Clearing the list or closing the tab releases the app's references to them; files you download remain wherever you save them. Our hosting provider receives normal website requests, including your IP address and browser information, and may keep operational or security logs. Conversion libraries are served with this site. Browser caching may store these application files; your selected photos are not added to that cache by the app. The optional Buy Me a Coffee links open an external site with its own privacy policy and payment processing. No Buy Me a Coffee scripts or widgets load on this page.
