About this conversion.

CR2 files store RAW image data from supported Canon cameras. To share them as ordinary photos, the sensor data needs to be processed into an image. This converter develops CR2 files with LibRaw and encodes the result as JPG.

OUTPUT / 01

JPG for everyday photos

Easy to share, smaller to store. Adjust the quality to balance detail and file size. JPG and JPEG are exactly the same format, with different file extensions.

OUTPUT / 02

PNG for crisp, clear detail

Lossless compression and support for transparent backgrounds. Ideal for graphics and screenshots. Photo files can be much larger than JPG.

RAW compatibility varies by camera model and compression. Standard image decoding depends on your browser; animated images export as a single still frame. Images above 80 megapixels are not supported. These are protective limits, not a guarantee against memory limits on your device.

A few good questions.

Is my CR2 uploaded to a server?

No. The converter reads the selected file and develops it in your browser. There is no photo-upload step. Your browser downloads the conversion software from this website.

Why does a CR2 conversion take longer than PNG to JPG?

A RAW file must be unpacked and developed before the JPG can be encoded. This requires more processing and memory than re-encoding an already developed image. Keep the tab open while the batch runs.

Do my photos get uploaded?

No. The converter reads and processes your selected images in your browser. It does not send photo files to our server. Keep this tab open until your conversions finish.

Is it really free?

Yes. There are no required payments, accounts, subscriptions or watermarks. If you find the tool useful, you can optionally buy me a coffee to support it. The current limits are 100 MB per input file and 80 megapixels per image. Your device may reach its own memory limits sooner.

What's the difference between JPG and JPEG?

Only the filename extension. Both use the same JPEG format, so the JPG option covers both. JPG uses lossy compression; PNG uses lossless compression. Saving an existing JPG as PNG will not restore detail already lost.

Will the conversion keep metadata and transparency?

Photo metadata such as EXIF, GPS and capture date is not copied to the new file. PNG preserves transparency where the input has it; JPG replaces transparent areas with white. RAW images are developed using camera white balance and sRGB colour, so they may look different from the camera's own JPG.

Why won't my RAW file convert?

The file extension does not guarantee support for every camera or compression mode. The image could also exceed your device's available memory. Try fewer files, use an up-to-date browser, and expand “What happened” under a failed image for details. A smaller output size does not avoid the memory needed to decode the original.

Can I change the output after converting?

Yes. Switch between JPG and PNG to queue the loaded images again, then press Convert. To use different quality or size settings with the same format, clear the list and add the originals again.
